Question 1

What size dehumidifier do I need for a bedroom?

Accepted Answer

Most bedrooms need a 10L to 12L unit. Compact models in this range are usually quiet enough for nighttime use and handle bedroom condensation well. If the bedroom is large, has an en-suite, or the damp is severe, step up to a 16L model. Use the dehumidifier size calculator for a specific recommendation.

Question 2

Are compressor or desiccant dehumidifiers better for UK bedrooms?

Accepted Answer

Compressor dehumidifiers are generally better for UK bedrooms because they are quieter, use less electricity and perform well in the temperature range found in heated UK homes (15C to 22C). Desiccant models suit cold spaces like garages and unheated rooms where compressor performance drops off.

Question 3

What noise level should I accept for a bedroom dehumidifier?

Accepted Answer

Look for a unit rated below 35dB for light sleepers and bedroom use. Many compact 10L-12L compressor models sit in the 35-45dB range. Check whether the fan has multiple speeds, and whether the display can be dimmed or turned off completely for night-time use.

Question 4

Is continuous drainage worth it for a home dehumidifier?

Accepted Answer

Continuous drainage is worth it if you run the dehumidifier for long periods or in a large space where the tank would need emptying several times a day. A drain hose to a waste pipe or sink removes the need for manual emptying entirely, which matters for utility rooms, garages and larger open-plan areas.

Question 5

What should I look for in a bathroom dehumidifier?

Accepted Answer

For bathrooms, look for an IP rating of at least IPX1 to protect against condensation. Placement matters keep the unit away from direct water spray. A desiccant or compressor model with a laundry mode handles the humidity spikes from showering well. Ensure the unit can be used with a window open or extractor fan running for safety.
